Data Sources & Attributions

GIS Defence Awareness Platform visualises data from the third-party sources below, each under its own license. We are grateful to these providers. Data is used for a free, non-commercial, informational service.

Non-commercial notice. Some sources below (notably submarine-cable data) are licensed for non-commercial use only (CC BY-NC-SA 3.0). This service is provided free of charge and carries no advertising, which is consistent with those terms. If this service ever becomes commercial or ad-supported, those sources must be removed or separately licensed.

Mapping & base layers

  • OpenStreetMap — © OpenStreetMap contributors, licensed under the Open Database License (ODbL). Used for power grid, pipelines, military sites, embassies, and other map features.
  • CARTO — basemap tiles © CARTO, © OpenStreetMap contributors.

Government / public-domain sources

  • NGA — World Port Index (Pub 150) and MIRTA military installation boundaries. U.S. Government works, public domain.
  • NOAA / National Hurricane Center — active tropical cyclone data. U.S. Government work, public domain.
  • USGS — earthquake and related feeds. Public domain.
  • NASA FIRMS — active fire / thermal anomaly data.

Scientific & institutional

  • Smithsonian Institution — Global Volcanism Program — Volcanoes of the World. Used with attribution.
  • The Space Devs — Launch Library 2 — upcoming launch data. Used with attribution.

Aviation & maritime

  • adsb.lol and airplanes.live — community ADS-B aircraft data.
  • aisstream.io — community AIS vessel data.

Telecommunications

  • TeleGeography — Submarine Cable Map — submarine cables and landing points. Licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 3.0 (non-commercial, attribution, share-alike). © TeleGeography.

News & media

  • Live News TV — live streams are the property of their respective broadcasters and are embedded via the broadcasters' official YouTube channels, subject to YouTube's Terms of Service. GIS Defence Awareness Platform does not host, rebroadcast, or claim ownership of any stream.
  • Other news/event feeds are aggregated from their respective publishers; headlines and links remain the property of those publishers.
